Unfortunately, saying thank you seems to be an after thought more and more. So at least once a month, I will take a few minutes to publicly appreciate someone that has had an impact on me.

This round:  Sam Laing

I really wish I could remember exactly when and how I met Sam. She might even have a better memory – and I should ask her to remind me. Regardless, I feel like I’ve known her forever within due to the Agile Alliance community.

I decided to give Sam this appreciation for a very simple but extremely impactful reason…she does what she says.

In 2018, she was incredibly supportive of me. This was on top of her embarking on a new adventure of moving to a new country – changing roles – etc. I had already found this to be so brave and inspiring but then she did two things that I completely made an impact. First, she pitched the idea for a self-care track at Agile2019. Obviously, this was something I needed and even knowing others needed this type of information as leaders/coaches in the world – matters. Then, recently, she tweeted. Yes, I occasionally still peek at twitter for a few people (Sam being one of them). Her tweet “I pick me“. Too many of us don’t pick ourselves when we need to the most. Too many of us, wouldn’t publicly share it with the world. Which means…too many of us would miss the opportunity to comfort and inspire others.

So thank you Sam, for being there for others, for setting an example, for being authentic, for being brave, for being vulnerable, for being you.  Mad respect.

  • I have only just seen this. Thank-you Tricia. Mad love and hugs to you.
I can’t recall where we met either … must have been an AgileXX conference… Karen will know – her mind is wired for these details.
