Unfortunately, saying thank you seems to be an after thought more and more. So at least once a month, I will take a few minutes to publicly appreciate someone that has had an impact on me.

This round:  Seb Rose & Victor Hugo

I met Seb and Victor both within the last year within the Agile community.  Seb was one of the few people that I managed to make an introduction and have a short discussion with at Agile2017 (despite constantly running around to the next thing).  Victor is a fellow Agile Alliance board member that I met at the end of the Agile2017 conference at my first board meeting.

Fast forward to May of this year: we were at an XP conference committee and Agile Alliance board member dinner in Porto, Portugal.  Big dinners can be tricky – extremely long wait times for food, little movement, etc.  However, this dinner flew by and one of the reasons was the wonderful conversation between the three of us.  I believe Seb asked the question “what’s something you are challenged by that you are avoided”.  (Side note:  This is a fabulous question that I will be borrowing!!!)  When my turn came around, the consideration of writing a book came up again.  Victor is currently writing a book and Seb is an author – writing more books now.   However, these two didn’t try to convince me that I could write.  These two didn’t try to convince me that is was important. Instead, they focused on the challenge aspect…what was truly making it challenging. They kept digging deeper behind my initial easy answers and in turn meant I kept digging.  The result, I sent an email to my colleague with these simple words: “Ok. I’m ready to write a book together.”

So thank you Seb and Victor, I’m extremely lucky to have met you last year.
