Since today is April 1st, I thought I would share one of the best pranks done to me.

Picture it…

I head early into the office.  Now when I say early, I mean 5:30 am early.  There was a number of things that I wanted to get out of the way before people started rolling in around 7 to 8.  As I pulled up to the office, everything was dark inside and outside. Plus, the wind was intense.  I turned off the alarm and proceeded to my office.  I would say around 6 am ish, I hear a little noise but chalk it up to the wind.  About 15 minutes later, I hear in a very hushed deep tone “hey, can you hear me?” which completely sounded like it came from the window of my office.

So I did what any normal human would do…SCREAMED and jumped over my desk out into the hallway.  I went to call the police but realized that I had left my cell phone on my desk and there was no way I was going back into my office.  Then I noticed that there was a car in the building next door – so I called over to her (early birds always know the other early birds at the office).  I didn’t explain that I heard someone talking, I just asked her to peak out the windows of their building to see if someone is standing outside my office.  She says no.  So feeling dumb, I went back into my office.  Thinking somehow I imagined the wind talked.

Fast forward another 20 mins or so.  I have proceeded to jump at any little noise or light change. I’m not getting any work done. So I realize that I can’t stay in my office any longer until someone else shows up at this building.  I proceed to head into the lobby and sit there.  Around 7, someone arrives.  I don’t even say hi…the words that come out of my mouth are “will you please come sit in my office with me until other people arrive?”.  Since I looked absolutely terrified, I didn’t get any questions.  Simply an “ok”.

Note: I’ve not shared that I heard voices yet with anyone.  I still don’t know if I’ve created this in my head or not.  As we sit in the room, little noises continue.  Some seem from the wind but some seem like something else.  Eventually, he asked “have you heard any talking?” I turned quickly to say yes…and he laughs.  I think you’ve been pranked.  He searched devices and sure enough there was a little quarter size gadget that makes random noises and says “hey, can you hear me?”.

My nerves are still shot but I am also laughing.  Well done, but there is no way I’m finding this tiny thing in my office.  I can now be alone and just ignore it.  Nope, turns out even when I know what it is and what will happen…when that creepy voice says “hey, can you hear me?”, I scream.  This time I screamed with lots of people in the office and they came running to see if I was ok.  My only next step was to vacate my office until the device was found.

Thankfully, someone found it and I returned.  Only to learn that the prank included putting two of these things in my office.  Yep, you guessed it…I screamed again.

Well done.  Well done indeed.

A good April Fools joke/prank is what I refer to as #makingMemories.  What is your story?
