Confession time:  I enjoy being busy.

Not the busy kind where all the tasks feel dumb and frustrating.  But the busy towards a passion you care deeply about.  The busy of getting things done that you are excited about.  The busy that feels like a difference is being made.  And I’m owning that I like it a little more than I should.

Here’s the risk:  I will keep going and going and going.  It’s not that I’m doing too much at once… I am very good at prioritizing and focusing.  It’s that I don’t stop to break.  To rest.  And eventually, I wipe out.  Sure, I may be happy up to that point but once I cross that line, I’m not as innovative, caring or productive as I desire.  And that point does not always appear at the right time.

So I’ve been trying to be intentional with my pauses despite the backlog, the interest and the energy.  I’m taking that walk.  I’m taking that trip.  I’m doing something totally unrelated.  Because sustainable pace doesn’t just mean for the day but over a period of time.  So far this approach has helped me get through several months of absolute insanity with the volume of things happening.  I get the highs of the checkmarks and the ability to keep going.

What are balancing your busy pace?
