This is a book “review” of Calm REBEL Leadership by Geoff Watts.
First, I put the word: review in quotations because I’m no true reviewer. I will share my opinions but they are strictly my opinions. I highly recommend always reading for yourself.
Second, I am lucky to have connections with the author. Geoff reached out to me and asked if I would be willing to do a review. I said yes of course and was a bit embarrassed that I didn’t realize the book was published last year. I just completely missed it.
Now disclaimers aside, I enjoyed reading this book…here’s why:
- In a world that feels challenging on levels that my brain struggles to comprehend or accept, as leaders I don’t always notice the little changes impacting my authenticity. The entire front part of this book highlights several patterns that diminish our leadership, drifting/distorting/rescuing/shrinking/self-sacrificing. I could relate to so many and had flashbacks of so many more. Aside from really clarifying what each of these mean and the impacts they have, I really appreciated the grace and humanity shown to how they happened. It’s so easy to judge yourself for one of these patterns but the content really makes a point to not continue down that narrative.
- It’s one thing to now realize what might be happening and it’s another to know how to move forward. The entire back part of this book gives numerous activities and techniques based on the Calm REBEL Arc (remember, examine, breathe, experiment, liberate).
- It’s well written. As someone currently writing a book, it even messed with my head – will my next book be this good. This book contains relatable stories, sourced information, and a natural flow towards the goal.
Congrats Geoff, I’ve already had several instances of the material helping myself and others!
I would recommend this book – bias or not.
