Unfortunately, saying thank you seems to be an afterthought more and more. So at least once a month, I will take a few minutes to publicly appreciate someone that has had an impact on me.
This round: Ed Cooley
As usual, I stink at remembering first introductions. But in this case, I know it was at an Agile For All Humanizing Work event, which year…maybe 2016.
Now I could do a whole appreciation post for the fact that this man plays euchre and made my day but as much as I do think euchre skills are relevant in the professional world, I’m going to focus this appreciation on recent interactions.
Imagine needing input. This input needs extreme honesty, confidentially, and knowledge. When I was making a list of people that fell into this camp for me professionally, Ed was one of the top people that came to mind.
- I sent out a “would you be willing to help” email. Within the day, he had responded and scheduled time.
- As I went through the information, his input was insightful, valuable and direct. Just what I needed.
- And he went above and beyond with giving ideas and opportunities for things I hadn’t even considered yet.
- And none of it ended up on the internet or in gossip channels – he kept my secret until I am ready to share.
Ed is a role model for the type of leader you want around. He simply wants to help and he does it in such an invested and caring way. I’m lucky to have him in my world. Thank you.
