Unfortunately, saying thank you seems to be an afterthought more and more. So at least once a month, I will take a few minutes to publicly appreciate someone that has had an impact on me.
This round: ‘Tine Zekis
As usual, I stink at remembering first introductions. I am confident this I met ‘Tine through the Agile Alliance events but maybe that’s just where I have tended to interact the most. And the most recent interaction is what I want to take time to highlight.
At Agile 2025, I signed up to do a book signing after the keynote. Agile Alliance setup a table for people to sign books, etc. I sat down and next to me was ‘Tine. She was highlighting her book, Overcoming Imposter Syndrome at Work: The Black Woman’s Guide to Conquer Perfectionism, Stop Overthinking & Thrive in Your Career. When people say, “it’s the little things”, it truly does make a difference…here is what ‘Tine did in a short period of time that was anything but little:
- She celebrated me. She highlighted congrats on the keynote. She smiled with the response at the tables. She asked if I needed anything. We were both there for different and individual purposes – yet, I didn’t feel alone. It was this feeling of powerful amazing women authors together at the table.
- She made space. I knew that Diana Larsen would be joining to also sign books but not sure when. As we were setting up, I asked if we could adjust the setup a bit so Diana could sit next to me. She made sure to help make room for us all.
- She helped me. She openly shared her approach to taking orders when physical copies were not present. And I mean not just sharing her website but advice about shipping, etc. Just above and beyond.
‘Tine is a shining example of a person that I simply want to be more like. I look forward to connecting more and more.
